Rusty Harbold

Describe your work day.
Everyday is kind of different. I'm in charge of the 9 Hole Ladies group. Basically I set up their pairings and get them out on the course and then when they come back in I do their results. In the summer I'll give a couple of lessons. We have senior clinics and we have different groups every day.
How long have you worked here?
I did an internship here in the summer of 2004.  I finished college and then started working here in the summer of 2005.

How did you get into golf?
I started playing at a pretty young age. My grandparents, my mom and my dad were pretty big golfers. My grandfather gave me my first set  of clubs and every now and then I would play with them for fun. I didn't get serious about it until my freshman year in high school. I was either going to play golf or football and I tried out for the golf team because I didn't really wanna play football and ended up making the golf team. Since then I started playing more seriously.

Do you have any golf victories?
I've won the Lanco Open last summer and I won the AB Thorne here last summer.

What were your previous jobs?
In high school I worked at the deli counter at Weis and then I worked in the seafood section. Those are my only two jobs outside of the golf business. In college I worked internships every summer. I worked at a club in Pittsburgh one summer at a club and at Fox Chase another summer. Then I worked here the summer after that, but I didn't work during the school year.

What did you want to be when you were
growing up?
I always wanted to be an athlete. I grew up playing sports. My dad is a big sports guy and very
competitive, my brother is too. I grew up playing basketball, baseball and golf.  I wanted to be a
baseball player when I was younger. I still play in a baseball league now, so I still enjoy it but golf seems a better career path.

What is your favorite place and where would you like to visit?
I've been to Colorado twice and I thought it was awesome. The area and everything out there is really cool. I’ve been to Arizona with a couple of the guys on the golf trip. I've done that for the last 4 years and they've done it even longer than I have. That's an awesome area. When we go in February it's still 60 - 70 degrees and pretty sunny. I'd like to go to Australia someday, it seems like a cool place.

Do you follow any sports teams?
I'm a big Phillies fan and a big Eagles fan. I like Philly sports, although I'm not a big hockey fan I’ll watch the playoffs for the Flyers. I went to Penn State so I'm a fan.

What is your favorite food?
Whatever they serve me here (laughs). Seafood is my favorite - crab and lobster but I like all kinds of food. I like pizza, Chinese food, lasagna, steak, chicken and fish.

What are some of your favorite TV shows?
I still watch reruns of Two and a Half Men, Seinfeld, Walking Dead, Wheel of Fortune and Modern Family.

What are your favorite movies?
Shawshank Redemption. I used to like Dumb and Dumber when I was younger, I like Will Ferrell.

What music do you listen to?
Classic rock. Pretty much all kinds of music, although maybe not country as much. I like anything that sounds good. I think my first CD was Tom Petty. I also like The Rolling Stones, CCR, and AC/DC.

If you could go back and give the teen age version of yourself advice, what would you tell him?
Do what you've always wanted to do. Don't have a job just for the money, do something you want to do. It will make your life more enjoyable - follow your dreams.

Shawn M. Myers

Describe your typical work day.
I answer the phones and direct the call to where it needs to go. I’ll take reservations for the Flynn Grill and for the various events that are going on in the club in the next month. I’m also in charge of the daily menu specials both in the Flynn and updating the online menus. I can book an event for a member as well. I’m in charge of making all of the signs in the lobby.

How long have you worked here.
I started in April of 2009 after I was laid off from work at Borders after 12 years. I started in maintenance with Pierre and then moved to the front desk when that became available.

What were some of your previous jobs?
My first job was at Hills department store for about 2 weeks. Then I worked at a movie theater (Fox Theaters) in Hanover and then a VHS rental store called Video Den. I worked at Bookland in York and then for Borders.

What did you want to be when you were little?
I loved superheroes so I wanted to be the real life equivalent which is a cop. I also wanted to be an actor.

What are your interests or hobbies?
Anyone who knows me for 10 minutes knows that I’m a huge Disney fan. I like the animated movies  and the music. I love going to the parks – Walt Disney World in Florida and last year I went to Disneyland in California for the first time. I also really like the DC Superheroes. Superman,  Batman,  Green Lantern.  I love the media – books, movies and music.

What is your favorite place and where would you like to go on vacation?
My absolute favorite place in the world is the basement of my parents house at Christmas time. It has such great memories and fun times. Besides going to Disney World, I’d love to go to any international destination like England, Rome, Australia, or Greece.

What is your favorite food?
Hot dogs, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes – all mixed together. When I was growing up I asked Mom to make me that, instead of having a cake for my birthday.

What are your favorite TV shows?
When I was a kid I loved Fame, it was a major obsession. Some of my favorite shows have been Arrested Development, Friends, The Avengers, Brady Bunch, Mary Tyler Moore, Barney Miller, Jonny Quest, and Batman: The Animated Series.

What are your favorite movies?
What’s Up, Doc?, Disney / Pixar films, Best In Show, Elf, West Side Story, Die Hard, the Scream movies, Iron Giant, A Christmas Story.

What are your favorite musical acts?
Kylie Minogue is my favorite singer of all time. I know she’s not very popular here, but most of the music that I like isn’t big here. Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Vanessa Williams, Robbie Williams. A ton of British dance-pop.

What is the best compliment someone could give to you?
“You should be a game show host”

Name a famous person living or dead who you would like to meet.
Walt Disney (laughs), that’s an easy one! If it can be a non-famous person I’d like to meet my Grandpa. I have a few memories of him from when I was very young, but I never really got to know him.

If you could go back and give the teenage version of yourself advice, what would you tell him.
Pay more attention in school. And even though I think I do a good job now of appreciating what I have you should take more time to do that.

Elliot Sinkosky

Describe your typical work day.

In the morning I work with Phil or Terry. With Phil I'll get ready for any breakfast events and then prep for lunch. With Terry I will prep for parties that are in the evening, and then a la carte lunch.
If I work in the afternoon that would be either working banquets with Brandon and Charlie, prepping and then putting the food out. Or it would be working a la carte, which then I'm usually at the veg station. Sundays I work the veg station, every dish that we prepare starts at the veg station.

How long have you worked here?

Part time for two years, and now full time, for about a year.

What were some of your previous jobs?

I worked at Hersheypark. I used to work at the photo booths that they have for the rides. The worst ride (which isn't there anymore) was the Canyon River Rapids. It smelled so bad because of the water and peoples body odor. They'd hand you wet money, it was gross. I worked at Dutch Wonderland, and for Max Films - doing commercial shoots, road
Construction and I worked for Carrabbas.

What did you want to be when you when you were growing up?

(Laughs) A Ninja Turtle! But then I realized that I wasn't coordinated enough.

What is your favorite place and where would you like to visit someday?

Lititz, but not just because Brandon lives there. It’s a nice town. I'd like to visit Canada, not that it's an exotic destination or anything. I've never been there yet but I'd like to go one day.

What are your interests or hobbies?

I like collecting and cleaning old video games, mostly for the Super NES! liked all of the Ninja Turtle games especially ‘Turtles In Time’, ‘Mickey Mania’, ‘Castle Of Illusion’ and ‘Castlevania 4’. I have a pretty wide collection of systems. I'm building it up slowly but surely. I like to find games that are still sealed in their package from that time. That's getting kind of expensive though.

Do you follow any sports?

Hockey! 100% The Flyers! By far they are my favorite team in my whole entire life. My dad has season tickets so we go very frequently, and this year is the year! I played hockey when I was young - really young like 8 years old, and then after that I became really out of shape, and that just kind of died.

What are your favorite TV shows?

I watch TV all of the time, most of my life. I like ‘Man Vs. Food’, ‘Man Vs. Wild’, (laughs) there's a theme there isn't there? Bear Grylls is like my hero. I watch weird stuff, I'll even watch ‘Toddlers And Tiaras’, because I'm so fascinated by how crazy those people are. I watch all kinds of shows.

What music do you listen to?

Smashing Pumpkins is my favorite band but I'll listen to anything that I like. If I hear a song I like it doesn't matter what genre it is – I’ll listen to it.

What is the best compliment someone could give to you?

"That tastes good"

If you could go back in time and give the teenage
version of yourself advice, what would you say to him?
Pay more attention in high school - take it seriously. And buy two copies of every video game that you like - one to play and one to save!

Shari Bucklin-Webber

What does your typical work day involve?
I work here part time, two days a week. Most of the time I do clinics, or private lessons, mostly for women and the kids after school. The kids are between 11 and 18.

How long have you worked here?
Four years.

What is your full time job?
I’m the men’s and women’s tennis coach at Millersville. I've been there for about 6 years

Do you have any awards?
I was named Collegiate Coach of the Year by the PA State Athletic Conference.

What were some of your previous jobs?
I've always worked in tennis. I think I've done everything involved in tennis that you can do. I’ve
commentated on the game on cable TV, I've played in a pro tournament, I've coached high school, I’ve taught at recreation departments and I've managed a 10 court facility.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A mom. Now I'm married with a son and two step children.

What are your interests and hobbies?
I like watching my family play sports - baseball and soccer, unfortunately none of them play tennis. I like visiting my family, my brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles, in Ohio.

What is your favorite place in the world and where would you like to go on vacation?
My favorite place is being at home with my family.
I'd love to travel to discover the US - there are so many places in the US that I haven't been yet. I found a list of the best hiking trails in the US, per state. I'd love to do each state’s best hike. Cross as many off of that list of 50 as I can. I'm trying to get different people to go with me on each one. I have a lot of volunteers for California and Florida!

Do you follow any sports?
I really enjoy college sports. I will watch college football and volleyball championships. I can always take something from a sport I'm watching and try to figure out how I can use that in my coaching. I think there's a lot of parallels. Some of my students may play a different sport, and they're also learning tennis. I try to discover how I can learn about that sport to translate it to tennis to help them. I try to play competitively too, so that I feel that I can be more empathetic to my students. I think it helps you understand that psychological coping skill when you're not playing, which is a big part of coaching and it's not just technique. When I watch sports on TV, I watch the coaches to see how they handle it when their team is not doing well or if their team gets a bad break. I enjoy watching the psychology of sports.

What TV shows do you watch?
I'm really into true crime. I would probably be an FBI agent if I had to do it all over again. I watch all of the true crime shows. I really enjoy all of the true-life documentary crime shows like ‘Forensic Files’ and ‘New Detectives’. All of the science that now goes into the forensics is fascinating to me. I cheer during these shows like you would at a football game. I don't like seeing the people get hurt, I just enjoy seeing all of the science and the criminology to it. I don't know why.

What is the best compliment someone could give to you?
That I’m a good mom or that I helped someone with their tennis game.

If you could meet the teenage version of yourself, what advice would you give to her?
Try to enjoy each stage of your life as its happening because each stage ends. Each stage is temporary and unique and you need to enjoy each day as it comes.

Vicki Watson

What is your typical work day like?

My day varies depending on what season it is and what the weather is like.
In the Spring I clean out any leaves or debris left in the flower beds, plant flowers and/or shrubs, trim shrubs, and do some edging and mulching.
Summer time brings the heat and the weeds. I usually spend a few hours watering every day unless we get rain. I pull weeds and spray weeds. I despise weeds.
Then the leaves start to fall and the flowers start to die, so I begin fall clean up. I also backpack blow the walkways, entrance, and patios.  I pick up any trash left in the parking lots, flower beds and entrance.

How long have you worked here?

I started in July of 2007.

What were your previous jobs?

I tended bar in college. I had a small lawn care business, which my husband took over and I worked in a real estate office.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I love animals and I wanted to be a veterinarian.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I like going camping and hiking.  I have hiked the 3 highest mountains in Vermont (Stowe, Camels Hump and Killington), some parts of the Appalachian Trail, Long Trail and several other trails.

Closer to home I enjoy hiking at Pinnacle Point, Tucquan Glen, Trout Run, Lancaster County Park and several other trails. I usually go camping at least once a year. Some places that I have been camping include Ricketts Glen,
Raystown Lake, Pine Creek, Ohiopyle, Vermont and many other places. I always take my dogs with me when I can. I also started competing in disc dog
competitions with my dog Diesel and he has won four ribbons so far.  I recently joined the Parks and
Recreation Committee for Providence Township and we are working on promoting the Enola Low Grade Trail which was a railroad at one time.  I also enjoy making floral arrangements when I have the time.

What are some of your favorite bands?

I like a variety of music, mostly classic rock, rock and some hip-hop.  Some of my favorite bands are
The Beatles, Tom Petty, CCR, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Blink 182, Chevelle, Snoop Dogg, Incubus.
I could go on and on.

What TV shows do you like to watch?

I don't watch a lot of TV but when I have the time I like to watch Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, The Dog
Whisperer and I just started watching season 1 of
Desperate Housewives on Hulu.

Name something you would love to do one day.

I have never been to the west coast so I would love to go to the west coast for several months to do some hiking.

If you could go back and give the teen age version of yourself advice, what would you tell her?

Take every opportunity given to you.

I'll be doing the Tailwaggers Trot again October 9.
If anyone would like to make a donation, please see me or talk to Shawn at the front desk.
